Just a thought from tooling around this morning...
Have you noticed there isn't a gas station/c-store north of 10th St downtown? I understand that going south of there Our Fair City seems to have cornered the market...I would think one would do fine in the Wabash/Mich. Blvd area where you'd catch the beach-downtown office, etc. crowd. Not to mention the Prime Outlets crowd...Family Trucksters filling up and getting little Biff and Molly something to drink before heading back to the Land of Higher Taxes - I mean Land of Lincoln. Now if any CBTL'er follows up with this...remember to cut me in - not a lot, just enough to "wet my beak", LOL... Actually, I've commented before that there needs to be a gas station/c-store on the north end in other threads as well. That's one of my big pet-peeves about MC. I had suggested a great place for one would be the corner of 12 and Wabash, across from the pet store (is that still there?)

The Fagan Pharmacy north of there has snacks & such, but not gas. I'm surprised no one's built a gas station/convenience store by the casino. That seems like an obvious location. Wabash too; you're right. But I'm not in the 7-11 business, so there will be no "referral fees" from me. Good luck elsewhere! |

Some one tried building one on Highway 12 at Willard if I am not mistaken, but they couldn't get the City to approve the zoning change.

The planning deptartment, plan commision and the BZA did approve the zoning change. Against the wishes of the City Council and the neighborhood. Being on a blind curve that prevented them access from 12 making the entrance on Willard across the street from a park. A judge saw the dangers and sided with the neighbors and the city council. |

Yeah, that was a friend of mine, she lives right by there at Lincoln and there was no way the neighborhood would go for it. Mostly they were concerned about problems similar to the ones at The Duke and that gas station on the Blvd & Poplar. Thanks for the details... All I could remember was where it was, and that it failed. |
