As those who follow the site know I do try to interview as many of the candidates for office as possible. this time around I would like to open up the questions to those who read and post here. I will ask that we make the questions fit the following criteria...
1. Office specific (IE for the school board candidates, or the Auditor candidates, etc.) 2. Hot button issues in the campaign 3. Avoid personal questions if possible. I would rather keep the questions to the general, versus using the gotcha media techniques of trying to trap a candidate into "bad" answer. 4. Questions that will go past "yes" or "no" answers and make the candidates get past soundbytes and give the community here some insight into what the office would be like if this specific person was elected. Other than that I am open to suggestions. Personally I would like to have as many questions as possible to choose from, as soon as possible. The quicker we get this done, the more time candidates have to respond, and we have to analyze their answers. Thanks! |

Also if there are candidates who are NOT members here and would like to participate they can either register here and contact me, or send me an email at michael@citybythelake.org.
I already know how to get ahold of everyone who is registered here, so I will be talking to you all about the interviews when I have the questions sets ready (Greg, Keith, Michele, and Eric). |

Question 1. School Board Candidates:
How will you open up the decision-making process so the public can know in advance the questions coming up and have some time to comment before the vote is taken on the issue at hand? The difference between genius and stupidity is that there are limits to genius. Albert Einstein

Here is my list for the school board candidates...
-What is your position on social promotion? -How important do you believe getting the teachers a new contract is? -Will you vote to extend Michael Harding's contract when it comes up for vote again? -Do you support the Strategic Plan -Do you believe the size of the administration is too big or OK? -Did you support the two new school building projects? -How would you try to build bridges between the community and MCAS that have been burnt, for example the girls basketball academy. -Do you believe no pass/no play should be extended to the middle and elementary schools? -Have you researched the new bus routes being added, and do you support them? |

Update...
I have a form letter prepared for all of the school board candidates who I didn't have email addresses for with the questions in them. I am going to be mailing them in the next few days. So far the people who have responded to have their interviews posted up in the election coverage forum, which are Mr Hanke, Mrs Nayoukus, and Mrs Hinchman. I have not yet heard back from Mr Tuel, Mr Zeek, Mr Gipson, and Mr Carlson. The rest of the candidates do not yet have the questions that I know of, but hopefully that will change by the end of the week. |

Roger, My opinion is that we need to move the public comment to the beginning of the Board Meeting. We also need to have the radio stations and news papers advertise the agendas so the public can add value to the meetings. The public can reach me at clafollette@comcast.net |
