Can we hear from our friends in Japan? How can we help there?

My first thought too. Check in if you get the chance!

Hope all is well.

As for helping, the Red Cross is always a great place to start, for things like monetary donations, food stocks, and giving blood.

Someone please post or call or email if anyone hears from Tim. I have extended family in Japan and I just got off the phone with my Mother, who talked to my cousin, who managed to reach one of them. They are okay, but all are stuck at work for the duration since no way to try to get home. Even the roads are ruined and the trains not running of course. Now I am still worried about Tim.

I'm sure Tim will check in as soon as he can. He knows that we, here, are all worried about him. But as a back-up, I My Spaced him, too wink.gif

Tim posted this on his facebook page a while back...

Tim
Again, thanks to everyone for your nice messages - it means a lot to me. Watching the news is pretty unreal. Thank God it wasn't on this side of Japan. Hiromi's still stuck in Tokyo. But we're okay.

Thanks all. The quake was barely felt here. Better half Hiromi was in Tokyo - she took it a lot worse but is okay and on the bullet train home. Very scary watching footage of the tsunami. Once Hiromi gets home I'll be fine, but as I lived through the Northridge quake in LA I feel pretty small right now.

Thank you - Hiromi just got home. Big relief.

It's a pretty powerless feeling after a big quake. I'm at work and can't wait to get home.

Not a nuke explosion, an explosion at a nuclear power plant.

Still not a good thing, but orders of magnitude less bad than a nuclear explosion.

Yeah there was some nuclear fall out, but nothing on the scale of a Chernobyl.

Hiromi snd I sat and watched the news last night - so many heartbreaking stories of loss. A woman who pretty much knew her husband and son were dead. A man who searched for his family only to find his kids okay but that his wife died. we had to turn it off. So many people whose lives were tragically changed forever in an instant. It's not a fun time to be in Japan. I'm so grateful she and I will be sitting at our own dinner table having supper together tonight. Life - so precious.

Glad to hear that you and Hiromi are safe and sound. Even though we have seen tragedies of this magnitude in the past around the globe, it never ceases to amaze me how many thousands of lives are lost and affected in a matter of seconds. Ho[efully we can continue to hear more and more stories of survival as the stories come through. My thoughts and prayers go out to all of Japan.
