QUOTE 57 underage people busted at LaPorte County party Comments 0 99 WSBT-TV Report 10:18 a.m. EDT, July 30, 2012 Long Beach police responding to a loud party complaint ended up hauling away 57 people under the age of 21. This happened Friday in the 2000 block of Juneway Drive. When officers arrived they say they saw and talked to several people around the residence who had alcohol or smelled of alcohol. Police say the homeowner, Julie Smith, told them alcohol was not being consumed in her house and refused to let the officers in. After obtaining a search warrant, officers entered the home and took away 57 people under the age of 21 – the majority of whom they say had been drinking. Michigan City police and the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department were called in to help transport the partygoers. Twenty nine adults were charged with ABC violations and taken to the LaPorte County Jail. Twenty nine juveniles were transported to the Juvenile Center. Smith was charged with neglect of a dependent, a Class D felony, contributing to a minor and one charge of furnishing alcohol to a minor. |

Rule number 1. if you are at a place where there are 50+ kids under 21 and alcohol, immediately leave, because the police will be coming.

I would guess that most of these kids were "Chicago kids." At least nobody got killed this year. It is so great this time of the year when we get all of these people from Chicago in the area. |

You would be assuming wrong!! Word has it there were quite a few Marquette student athletes. I understand if Principal White doesn't want to sweep this under the rug like other occasions that the Volleyball and Boys Soccer team will be hit hard. I hope Mr. White abides by a zero tolerance rule. I would bet though that money talks and we will hear nothing more about this or at most a wrist or two will be slapped with a game or two suspension. |

It seems like usually when there are problems it involves the Marquette kids versus the Chicago kids. The Daley incident of years back being the biggest one. |

I hang my hat in the region and call it home. Don't be silly though and think that we'd be better off without the Chicago contingency. Imagine what this town would be like without the money that comes with them. |

If you want a few minutes to reflect on where we are as a society ready the facebook post and messages about this party. Reading them makes me very proud of the level of discussion on this site. I know there are times where things are pleasant, but they are never as bad as this...

Thank goodness none of us ever partied when we were teenagers. I know I never did. I grew up in the 70s and. We would never think of such a thing. I am glad you were just as straightlaced as I back then. I probably remember you from the library. |

So - which part of this story is true? The headline says - 57 underage people busted at LaPorte County party Yet later the story says - Twenty nine adults were charged with ABC violations and taken to the LaPorte County Jail. Twenty nine juveniles were transported to the Juvenile Center. So - 57 underage people were busted, yet only 29 were transported to the Juvenile Center? |

29 people under 18, 28 people between 18 and 20.
The "adults" were not of age to consume alcoholic beverages, thus they received ABC violations while the ones under 18 got MIP (minor in possession) One of the people arrested was the homeowner and she was charged with one count of contributing, one count of neglect of a minor, and one count of furnishing alcohol to someone under age. I believe she will be charged with one count of each times the number of other people arrested.....but I could be wrong on that one. Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind~Dr. Suess

no, I think they were... "underage" is under 21, but "adult" is over 18..
I'm guessing that there were some kids who didn't blow positive. I still just find the whole thing astonishing for many reasons. I'm also saddened by the disrespect for the police, by both the homeowner and the people at the party. Sad, sad, sad. |

It says -
57 underage people busted at LaPorte County party But then it says - officers entered the home and took away 57 people under the age of 21 But it never actually says 57 underage people were "busted". Does "busted" still mean arrested? |
