When I attended the Grange Insurance Indiana High School North-South All-Star Football Classic down in Indianapolis last week I purchased a copy of The 2010 Indiana Football Digest and turned it to page 60 which features Michigan City and was pleasantly thrilled that eight graduates from last years squad has earned scholarships to play at the the college level.

This has got to be some kind of unprecedented historical achievement. I don't know if Michigan City has ever sent this many from a single class on to the collegiate level in any sport. This is probably the most from a Duneland conference school since the Valpo graduating football class 2003 which as juniors made the state finals and were led by the likes of WR Jeff Samardzija (Notre Dame) and QB Jason Renn (Purdue).

Kudos also to the outgoing and remaining coaching staff and school AD's on the fine job they did in promoting and recruiting these student athletes.

I thought it would be nice to recognize these young men and their families. They are:
  • OL/DL Ryan Isaac (Purdue)
  • RB/DB Adam Harmon (Anderson)
  • WR/DL Blake Surface (Indianapolis)
  • OL Tyler Prybylla (Ferris State),
  • WR Austin Althoff (Wabash)
  • OL Alex Hirsch (Wabash)
  • LB Michael Panaccia (DePauw)
  • WR/DB Tracy Rivera (Aurora)
It would be my wish that some these guys decide to come back and coach at Michigan City once their college days are over.

I can't remember the year but I remember Rogers sending 3 guys to Divison I full scholarships, maybe 1990.

Tax. . .evidently you have no idea how tough it is to play college football at any level. To get a full ride D1 scholarship is huge. The percentage of kids that move on beyond that is minimal. I can only think of two kids since they consolidated the programs that received a D1 football scholarship and actually attended that school(Javan Lee--NIU & now Ryan Issac--Purdue).

From the Rogers class of '90, both Tim Nowatzke and Matt Jones both played at the college level. I can't remember the third.

I think the third was either Dave Sharkey, Dion Powell or Sam Lemon as they all got scholarships and played in that era.
