WEFM reported that a Chicago developer may purchase the Dunes plaza and demolish the old Kmart/Hobby Lobby/Michael's Furniture and Dunes Cinema Building to make way for an unnamed national retailer.

Excellent. I hope this is true. It is sad to see that property and the Marquette Mall property as underutilized as they are for the locations that they hold.

That would be outstanding... there are a few small businesses there, and a great physical therapy place, not much going on. Might also be a catalyst to get things moving across the road as well.

Way too big for that. It has to be something that requires some major square footage if they are buying the whole thing and starting over. I was being sarcastic. Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind~Dr. Suess

People on the facebook page have said the same thing seriously, so I wasn't sure. It probably doesn't hurt to point that out!

How about an Indoor 10,000 seat minor league hockey, semi-pro basketball, WNBA basketball, arena football, concert arena and convention center.

The idea of a small arena/ concert venue/ convention center seems to make sense from a logistical standpoint. Not certain about making sense from a financial standpoint - probably would need to get the LPCCVB involved with some of their $'s.

I don't believe they would be enough room for that sort of a facility there, would there? |

Build it to scale the same as the Van Andel Arena just a hop skip and a jump away up the coast from Michigan City in Grand Rapids, MI. About a one block area. City could make plenty of $$$ in parking garage revenue. $$$ for gas stations, eateries, hotels YEAR ROUND EVENTS Hobs for the local inhabitants, fun things for families to go out and do besides work and pay taxes. http://www.flickr.com/photos/canuckr/33781...in/photostream/ http://www.pbase.com/andyshots/image/80588757 |

First off there no way that area could fit a 10,000 seat arena, let alone the parking to go with it. Secondly Grand Rapids has almost 200,000 people in it. City is fighting to keep above 30,000. |
