One of my best friends, Jeremy Zmuda is competing in a Lennon Music Contest. He won the first contest for best Jazz song and now he's up for best song. This is could be huge for him and get him much needed exposure as well as a shot in the arm. After graduating from Marquette, he spent a year or two at Columbia in Chicago and then was accepted to the Berklee School of Music in Boston, the premiere jazz school in the country / world. He graduated from there and worked in Boston for a number of years. About three years ago he made the move to the big apple does all sorts of different shows from private parties, to museum opening to late night jazz clubs. You might know his Mom, Kathy Zmuda, storyteller extraordinaire or his Dad, Walt who's been a school principal in M.C. for the last 30 some years.

Thanks! http://jlsc.com/vote.php http://thenewsdispatch.com/main.asp?Sectio...ArticleID=11474 LB Native Competes In Lennon Music Contest People can vote for Jeremy Zmuda’s jazz selection online. Andrew Tallackson The News-Dispatch Winning the John Lennon Songwriting Contest could be just what Jeremy Zmuda needs at this stage in his career. The Long Beach native and 1992 Marquette High School graduate was a grand-prize winner last year in the contest and now vies for one of 12 spots to compete for Maxell Song of the Year, prizes for which include not just the latest technology for musicians, but $20,000. "In the jazz world, there is no great leap that you take," the jazz composer/guitarist said in a phone interview from New York, where he lives. "It's all about small steps, and this is another important step." The international songwriting competition, which started in 1997, is open to amateur and professional songwriters in 12 categories: rock, pop, hip-hop, R&B, electronic, country, folk, children, jazz, world, Latin and gospel/inspirational. All voting is done online at http://jlsc.com/vote.php. Zmuda's selection, "On Standby," is listed under the jazz category. People have until April 26 to vote, and winners will be announced May 1. Those 12 individuals then compete for Maxell Song of the Year, the winner for which is announced in July. This year's executive committee of judges includes Al Jarreau, Robin Gibb of the Bee Gees, The Black Eyed Peas, The Bacon Brothers and John Legend. For Zmuda, 34, who's currently at work on a CD of children's songs, winning the contest would be great exposure. "Maybe it could open a few more doors for me," he said. |
