Feel free to comment on why you chose the store you did.....
I chose Sears because they are closing stores all over the country, including the K-Mart division. I just feel our store is on the chopping block, it's just not been announced yet. Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind~Dr. Suess

I went with Penny's. I think a Montgomery Ward's style liquidation is in their near future.

All three whould have pulled out if it were not for the fact that they own their respective stores at the mall as opposed to leasing.
Basically all that's in there is Sears, Penny's, Carsons and Applebees, everything else is just flea markert type merchants. With Kohl's coming in, I'll go with Penny's since they have a fairly new store on Hwy 2 and 49 in Valpo, then Carson's, How many big box type department clothing stores can Michigan City support? I hope Carson's stays the longest. My next door neighbor is the retired manager of Carson's and my good buddy Tara is a sales associates at Carsons. |

They had the BEST stuff at very resonable prices. I bought a microwave from them that lasted me over 20 years!! The MC Chamber of Commerce should petition Amazon to setup a distribution center. It would bring in a TON of jobs. |

Penny's will close first, they will suggest Michigan City shoppers patronize their store in Valpo just like Jewel-Osco suggested that Michigan City shoppers patronize their store in Chesterton.

With the transportation options we have locally, that would be a spectacular option for City. One of my friends is working for Amazon, in Indianapolis. Job will last around 6 weeks. (It’s seasonal & goes with the Christmas season). Pay is $11.00/hour and overtime is paid at time-and-a-half. If someone is off for six days (no mater what the reason) they are terminated. Amazon does not hire and fire employees; they use an employment service for that. It’s repetitive work, filling orders, but fairly good money for as long as it lasts. |

A friend who works at CPS says they're doing well, so not them. J.C. PENNEY'S seems in relatively good shape - so I'd say Sears.

QUOTE More than 500 families have settled in a campground set up by Amazon, taking jobs in the company's plant for nearly $15 an hour. All told, Amazon has hired 15,000 temporary workers at similar processing plants nationwide. "There are jobs everywhere for people that live in RV's and are willing to move around," said Shelia Sowder, a retiree who's taken a job at Amazon's Kentucky plant. http://abcn.ws/SmwIYc _ |

Lots of my friends and former co-workers have relolcated from Michigan City to Indianapolis because that is where the job opporuntities are. A few friends and relatives of mine have found decent jobs in Fort Wayne. Plus the cost of housing is about 30% less in Fort Wayne. |
