QUOTE Engineer: Cleveland Avenue paving project finishes today By Tim Moran Staff Writer Published: Wednesday, October 12, 2011 5:08 PM CDT MICHIGAN CITY — Paving on Cleveland Avenue between U.S. 20 and County Road 400 North is expected to be completed today, City Engineer Bill Phelps said Tuesday. Rieth-Riley crews were working on the road Monday and Tuesday as part of a contract signed with the city that runs until Dec. 31. Traffic was diverted to the outer lanes Monday and the inside lanes Tuesday. “It is quite a job. The road there is 62-feet wide” Phelps said. “It was in bad shape and had deep cracks.” On Thursday, after Cleveland is scheduled to be completed, work will begin on 500 feet of roadway on the north side of U.S. 20 and the connecting drive from the Michigan City Fire Department station from Cleveland Avenue. * Phelps said all work in that area is expected to be done “sometime this week.” Rieth-Riley also paved 7,200 feet of Tryon Road this week between Karwick Road and Indiana 212. Phelps said they also plan to begin work on Roeske Trail, which was funded by the city this year as part of an intergovernmental agreement with the town of Pottawattomie Park. The town will reimburse the city for half the project cost in 2012. Phelps said the contractor also plans to pave Roeske Avenue “to the South Shore tracks,” and Tilden Avenue between Coolspring and Greenwood avenues. “Weather permitting,” he continued, Rieth-Riley also could pave Kentucky Street and “several others in that area.” “We are looking at different options,” Phelps said. |
