EAST CHICAGO | Police are searching for a man who slashed another man's throat during a robbery at the South Shore station Monday night.

A 28-year-old Chicago man suffered a cut to his neck and lacerations on his hand when he was attacked in the men's bathroom about 5:42 p.m., police said.

Police are searching for the victim's car, a silver 2005 Honda Accord, which was taken from the train station, Northern Indiana Commuter Transportation District Police Chief Bob Byrd said.

The car is a four-door and has an Illinois license plate of H713340.

The victim had parked his car and was waiting for his wife to get off the train when he went into the bathroom, police said.

A man approached him in the bathroom, attacked him and took his keys, wallet and phone, Byrd said.

The victim ran from the bathroom into the parking lot and was chased by the offender. The attacker then got into the victim's car and drove away, police said.

The victim was taken to St. Catherine Hospital to be treated for injuries that were not life-threatening, Byrd said.

The car was last seen going north on Indianapolis Boulevard, Byrd said.

Investigators were working late Monday to review the security footage at the train station and try to identify the attacker, he said.

Police are asking anyone with information to call transit police at (219) 398-6000.
