MICHIGAN CITY — Scott Bell bested two other candidates Tuesday in the Democratic primary for the party’s nomination for Michigan Township assessor.

Bell got 1,164 votes, or 51.94 percent of those cast for assessor, while Thomas F. Wagner Sr. got 700 and Dick Pilcher got 377.

They ran for assessor to succeed Terry Beckinger, who didn’t seek re-election.

No one ran for the Republican nomination for township assessor, but the party has until June 30 to fill the ballot vacancy.
