Expo, NAACP plan formal ball

MICHIGAN CITY — The Michigan City Chapter of Indiana Black Expo and the NAACP La Porte County Branch will host a formal ball at 7 p.m. Saturday, June 26, at Michigan City Senior Center.

Attendees are encouraged to wear white formal attire for the Summer White Out Ball.

The goal of the two organizations is to promote the social advancement of blacks and to celebrate their culture. Proceeds will benefit the youth scholarship fund of each group and other youth programs.

Tickets are $15 in advance or $20 at the door, with $5 off for wearing white attire.

The two groups are seeking sponsorships in several categories: the W.E.B. Dubois platinum sponsorship, $1,000; Ida B. Wells gold sponsorship, $500; Thurgood Marshall silver sponsorship, $250; Rosa Parks bronze sponsorship, $100; other amounts and donations such as gas cards, gift cards, luggage, digital cameras, mp3 players, Blackberrys, portable DVD players and day spa certificates.
