Michigan City has been behind the rest of the area as far as new constuction projects, but there are signs of life with new projects going up. Obvious new projects are:

Demolition of the News-Dispatch building and the Police Station is complete.

Belle Tire construction on south Franklin Street is complete and the shop is open.

The new Michigan City Chrysler Jeep dealership looks complete. Awaiting the shift from across the street.

The new Franciscan Michigan City Hospital at the NW corner of the I-94 and US-421 interchange is going up. Foundation work is complete and steel is going up.

The Sonic drive-in in front of Kohl's has preliminary foundation work started.

There is also a large building under construction on East Michigan Boulevard, across form the Kia dealership.

Anything new that I might have missed?

There will be a new warehouse going up south of the new Chrysler dealership, ground should break soon.

Two boarded up homes at 8th and Grant and another in the 400 block of Vail St. have been demolished.

New sidewalks on 10th St. between Ohio St. & Tennessee St. are about to be poured replacing the ancient brick sidewalk.
