In-person absentee voting available
From Staff Reports

LaPORTE - Robert Behler, LaPorte County Circuit Court clerk, announced Monday in-person absentee voting for the May 8 primary in Michigan City, LaPorte and Kingsford Heights is open in Michigan City and LaPorte courthouses.

Such voting is from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at either courthouse. Voting will be closed for lunch from 11:30 a.m. to noon.

Voting hours also will be available from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. on the two Saturdays closest to the election: April 28 and May 5. Absentee voting will end at noon May 7.

The MicroVote Infinity machines will be used at both locations. Behler said voters should be aware state law dictates that due to the lack of contested races in the Republican party, only a Democrat ballot is available.

In addition, voters must show a valid photo ID, such as an Indiana driver's license or passport, to cast a ballot.

Those who may have requested a Republican ballot by mail will be contacted and given the opportunity to request a Democrat ballot instead, if they wish, Behler said.
