MICHIGAN CITY — New information about the 35 dogs found in a Michigan City last week.

Terry Marthinsen faces 35 charges of animal neglect.

Charging documents state Marthinsen told police about 10 years ago he got two dogs and they started to breed.

Marthinsen guessed there had been more than 12 litters in the past decade.

He denied the dogs were mistreated.

The charging documents also state the dogs appeared to be malnourished and a few were fighting over a potato chip bag.

One dog was found dead on a pile of feces.

The remaining 34 are looking for new homes.

Most of the dogs are recovering better than the veterinarian expected.

16 of them are still at the Michigan City Animal Hospital getting care and spayed.
