QUOTE Stimley will sit again on fire board Deborah Sederberg The News-Dispatch MICHIGAN CITY - It's been a successful election season for the Stimley family. On Oct. 24, John J. Stimley was re-elected to the Michigan City Fire Merit Commission Board and on Nov. 4, his son, John A. Stimley Jr. (known as Johnny), was elected La Porte County recorder. At its Monday meeting, the Board of Public Works and Safety heard Fire Chief Dave Lamb announce John J. Stimley's re-election to the Fire Commission and then certified the election. Lamb said the firefighters elected Stimley by write-in ballots. "So it wasn't as if any one person was running against Mr. Stimley," he said. The Fire Commission is in charge of hiring, firing and promotions, Stimley said. Five people serve on the commission, two elected by the fire department, two appointed by the mayor and one appointed by the city council A 12-year veteran of the commission, Stimley is a retired firefighter. "I really like all the other people on the commission," he said. "We all work well together." "My son and I thank everyone who voted for us," he said. q Contact Deborah Sederberg at dsederberg@thenewsdispatch.com. |
