Foreman Bicentennial Amphitheater. The series consists of 10 free performances on Thursdays through Aug. 17. Richard D'Arcangelis is the director. In 2001, he replaced Guy Foreman, who directed the group for 60 years and now is its director emeritus. A wide variety of music will be performed during the season, including familiar marches, overtures, musical novelties, selections from current and past musical shows, transcriptions of standard orchestral works and contemporary compositions. Area vocal and instrumental soloists and ensembles are planned. The 2008 summer concert season officially will open with the Presentation of Colors by the Color Guard of Skwiat American Legion Post 451. The first concert will include "The Star Spangled Banner" by Francis Scott Key and John S. Smith; "Colossus of Columbia," by Russell Alexander; "A Jubilant Overture," by Alfred Reed; "Fantasy on American Sailing Songs," by Clare Grundman; "Voices of Spring," by Johann Strauss; "Bolero EspaƱol," by Ernesto Lecuona; "You're a Grand Old Flag," by George M. Cohan; "Sinatra in Concert," arranged by Jerry Nowak; and "The Diplomat," by John Philip Sousa. |
