Sounds like most of town was out, at least. I know the area around the 11th street corridor up to 421 and 20 was out. We were out for about 45 minutes on Ohio between the DAV and VFW. How is/was everyone else?

I saw them working out at the substation by 20 and Ohio early this afternoon. I guess the high school has had power surges all morning and into this afternoon.

They had to cut the power to Josam completely this afternoon. Probably the baking co. too. I guess there was a fire or something this morning about 9:30. Not sure of all the details, I only know I got sent home from work because of it.

QUOTE Power out for just more than an hour Deborah Sederberg The News-Dispatch MICHIGAN CITY - In just a bit more than an hour Friday morning, NIPSCO cleared a problem that shut down electrical power to about 3,000 customers. Nick Meyer, a communication manager for NIPSCO, said people from Michigan City began to make reports of power out just before 9 a.m. Friday. Crews went to work right away and, Meyer said, "Electricity was up and running by 10:05 a.m. "There was a switch malfunction in a nearby substation which is tied to four large circuits," he said. The outage was concentrated in the south end of town, for the most part, south of U.S. 20, affecting businesses and traffic signals. Nancy Erickson of Erickson Jewelers in Dunes Plaza shut her store down for a bit, and an employee of the Starbucks coffee shop said electricity came and went for a time, but finally, it was back. "We thank all our customers who have been so patient with us while the power was out," Meyer said. |
