LaPorte county, Indiana has been named one of three finalists to host the 2011 conference of the Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers. This yearly conference attracts more than 100 of the top outdoor writers and broadcasters from across the midwest and beyond. Host communities receive extensive media coverage as a result of the conference at which writers are exposed to local outdoor attractions.
Other finalists are Oshkosh,Wisconsin and Honey Creek Resort State Park in Iowa. The now deceased outdoor editor of the News Dispatch, Al Spires, is a former president of AGLOW. WEFM has been a member for 40 years. The application to host the conference was submitted by the LaPorte County Convention and Visitors Bureau which will make a presentation at this year's conference in support of hosting the conference in two years. Members there may state preferences but no decision will be announced until after this year's conference. WEFM will broadcast daily from this year's conference in northern Michigan to be held in late September as the station does yearly. |
