Can't believe the person that caused the accident was driving with a .245 BAC at 9 o'clock in the morning.

Woman, children injured following head-on collision

Michael Natt said a head-on collision with serious injuries this week is nothing new on a curvy and hilly stretch of Wozniak Road close to Pinhook Bog near Westville.

“There are so many curves on that road and some are pretty sharp,” said Natt when reached on Friday.

He has lived close to Pinhook Bog for the past 23 years and often avoids that area due a long history of crashes on that road.

Ryan Parsons, 22, of 3745 N. Holmesville Road, had an alleged blood alcohol level of .245-percent when he was involved in the accident, said police.

He and the other driver, a 29-year-old woman, each sustained possible fractures to the lower leg and foot areas.

The woman had to be extricated from her car while her children, an 11-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy, were out of the vehicle.

The brother and sister were leaning against a tree and crying while emergency responders were en route to the scene, said Natt.

“They were pretty well shook up,” said Natt.

According to police, Parsons was traveling behind Natt on Wozniak Road near 200 North and on several occasions crossed the double yellow center line prior to the collision.

The last time he veered into the opposite lane is when he and the female driver met head-on, said police.

The woman told investigators she didn’t have time to react once she spotted the oncoming vehicle coming at her.

Police said a passenger in Parson’s vehicle, a 23-year-old man who lives in the 7000 block of 125 South suffered a possible fracture to the face.

The 11-year-old girl in the vehicle which was hit sustained an internal injury to her head while her brother was treated for abrasions to this chest, said police.

Parsons was not arrested because doctors admitted him to the hospital for his injuries.

The investigating officer, Deputy Neal Lachmund, has begun the process of seeking a warrant to arrest Parsons upon his release for operating while intoxicated, said La Porte County Sheriff’s Department Chief of Detectives John Boyd.

Boyd said that’s standard procedure to allow potential defendants “to get the medical treatment they need.”

Natt said he stopped after the crash and walked over to lend assistance.

He said he witnessed the crash in his rear-view mirror.

“I seen both cars hit and both cars jumped in the air and both cars turned almost 90 degrees,” said Natt
