Police seek driver in fatal Michigan City accident

MICHIGAN CITY — Police in Michigan City are asking the public for help in locating a female driver who struck a motorcycle driver, who has since died.
Michael Schaeffer, 55, of LaPorte, was struck May 20 at Carroll Avenue and Michigan Boulevard.

He died two days later, police said.

Michigan City Police Cpl. Ken Havlin said the investigation indicates he was going through the intersection when apparently hit by a dark-colored vehicle that either ran a red light or tried to beat a light changing from yellow to red.

The vehicle did not stop.
