The MCPD is now saying that the school closing information they received was NOT official, and that they to are awaiting school closing information. Stay tuned.

I guess the next question should be, why isn't are schools officially closed yet? We all know that there is going to be a foot and a half to two feet of snow on the ground, and record cold temps. We have working parents that have to arrange for daycare for their children if there is no school. I don't see the reason to delay this any further. There is no need to wait until the last minute as if some sort of change in the weather is going to happen.

Meals on Wheels will not deliver on Jan 6
Harley Davidson of MC is closed Sunday and Monday
Moose 980 Bingo is called off
Independent Cat Shelter of Westville.

Others worth noting, all area schools are closed Monday, as are both LaPorte and Porter County government offices, including the courthouses. There will be no recycling pick up on Monday either.

Open places included Lighthouse Place, Roma's and Papa Johns.

Shoreline Brewery closing at 4pm, reopening Tuesday at 11am.

from the Mayor's Office, Michigan City is officially under a State of Emergency due to the snow and coming extreme cold.

-All City meetings and boards for tomorrow are cancelled.
-All Garbage pick up is cancelled for tomorrow, and all picks up for the week will be one day later than usual.
-City bus service is cancelled.
-The Senior Center is closed.
-The Warming centers are open around town. Anyone needing transporation to one can call the NON-EMERGENCY police line at 874-3211 for a ride.
-Snow routes are in effect, and towing can/will result from parking on those routes, with minimum fines of $165.

The LaPorte County Comissioners have signed off on a State of Emergency declaration for LaPorte County.

Schools are closed again on Tuesday the 7th.
