Just what I need. First I get water in the basement, then near freezing temperature.

Hey, combine the two and I could have an indoor skating rink! smile.gif

Maps are looking pretty nasty for this region today. Only saving grace is if there's some sufficient cloud cover this afternoon to stabilize the atmosphere a bit.

Wednesday "might be the worst severe weather outbreak for this part of the country for the year," said Jeff Masters, meteorology director at Weather Underground.

Skilling sez bow echo squall line will come barreling in from the west by this evening. Time to start making some ice cubes and covering up windshields.

Probably be a good idea to monitor this real time site just to get a heads up:

The HIGH RISK severe weather assessment by SPC for the Chicago area is the first such forecast since 2004 (in 9 years) and only the 16th occasion since 1980 that the Storm Prediction Center has placed Chicago under a HIGH RISK! My thanks to Dr. Russ Schneider, Storm Prediction Center director, for this information. It sure puts the rare nature of the developing meteorological situation into historic perspective!

Funnel clouds were reported today over Plainfield, Rockford, South Elgin, Yorkville, Paw Paw, Harmon, Wilmington, Culver IN. This impressive shot of the storm racing into Plainfield late this afternoon comes to us from David Thomas. My colleague meteorologist Mike Hamernik reports the strongest Doppler radar detected straightline winds with Wed's storm as it cross the greater Chicago area roared across northwest Indiana in the 7 to 8pm time frame just taking the roof off a home in Crown Point where 80 mph winds were measured.
