QUOTE Nearly four years after a 6-year-old boy was swallowed up by the sand in a freak accident on Mount Baldy, park officials are planning to reopen the nearby beach. "A lot of people have missed visiting the Mount Baldy beach," said Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore spokesman Bruce Rowe. A date has yet to be selected to reopen the beach, which is located immediately north of U.S. 12 at the Porter-LaPorte county line. A new pathway needs to be developed from the 100-plus vehicle parking lot down to the Lake Michigan beach, he said. Deterioration from high waves has left the former route unusable due to cliffs as high as 12 to 15 feet. |

QUOTE "A lot of people have missed visiting the Mount Baldy beach," When the Trumpster shuts down the government later this year, it won't really matter. In the meantime, here's the Mount Baldy solution: Why not have a running safety line among climbers....like they do on Mount Everest ?? _ |

I've read Mt. Baldy would have opened up sooner but the stairs that go from the trail to the beach had eroded to the point that it was structurally unsafe.
