It is also timely to see the mention of then governor Romney.

Many prominent political figures have been to Michigan City throughout the years, Lincoln's funeral train in 1865. Eleanor Roosevelt spoke at the Sinai Sunday Forum in 1955, Ralph Nader spoke at the forum in 1969, Robert F. Kennedy made a campaign stop here 6 weeks before his assassination in 1968, President William McKinley in 1899, then California governor Ronald Reagan in 1976. Indiana governor and former U.S. Secretary of Health and Human Services Dr. Otis Bowen, U.S. secretary of education Arne Duncan was here only a couple months ago. I've personally seen with my own eyes President Bill Clinton speak here in 1996 and 2008 as well as ex-Indiana governor and U.S. senator Evan Bayh in 1996 and former Director of the U.S. Office of Management and Budget and current Indiana Governor Mitch Daniels in 2004 in Michigan City.

1966 was quite a year for Our Fair City, between the Red Devils winning state and this. It doesn't show up well here, but the calender on the wall really dates the picture well! My dad grew this beard for the sesquicentenial celebration - he also dyed it red during the last part of the basketball season when the Red Devils were on fire.

Thanks for posting!

Tim, I found this reference to Samuel and Emily Miller being credited as Michigan City's first permanent residents around 1830. I'm curious to know if they are your families direct descendants?

I guess this was before the riots. (smile)
My parents used to have their taxes done by Randy Miller.

Those were the days Tim. All-American city and sitting in the Devils Den cheering on the Red Devils. You couldn't beat those days. It sure doesn't seem like nearly 50 years has passed either.

Ouch! That was the year I was born, thanks for the "50 years" comment. tongue.gif

Tim, that's funny about your Dad coloring his beard. He must have really looked like a red devil!
