Ok. We have had several "advertisements" for local entrepreneurs. While we understand everyone has to make a living, CBTL is not a forum for marketing and advertisements. The admin team has discussed several options for this and the general consensus seems to be to offer ONE THREAD for self promotion.

So this is it. We're going to try it for a while and see if it works. The point being that not everyone wants to see "advertisements" for self promotion and by allowing only one thread for this, we are not bogging down the place and if someone wants to read about it, they can look at this thread or just skip it.

For the moment, I will only merge the most recent thread with this one. If you are an entrepreneur in Michigan City who would like to let us know about your business, feel free to tell us about it in this thread. If anyone is looking for something special, check out this place first.

If it looks like it's going to be a problem, we will have to ban advertising.

No offense to anyone. One of the goals of CBTL is to promote local business, which is why we are offering this thread. Please be respectful of others and only post your ads here.

Thank you.

I pinned this thread so it won't get lost in the shuffle.

Posted by: southsiderMMX Feb 25 2010, 08:54 PM

I went ahead and cleaned up this thread as well. Please let's keep it to people talking about their businesses and products. Thanks.

Posted by: Tim Feb 25 2010, 09:40 PM

Two suggestions -

1. Indicate that this thread is not open for comment.

2. Delete events once they have happened.

just my 2 yen.

Posted by: Ang Feb 27 2010, 03:45 AM

Good suggestions and we will try to keep up with that.

I want to tell the ladies that there is a belly dancing school here. My friend Wendy teaches and it is a lot of fun. We will be dancing in the parade this July 4th. I am so excited. And if you think you can't do it, you're wrong. You don't have to be skinny to belly dance-actually the bigger the better-they don't call it belly dancing for nothing. Ha Ha

Anyway, check out her website:

http://www.silvermoondancing.com/

I'm trying to get her to sign up with us, but between her day job and evening classes, her plate is pretty full, so I thought I would take the liberty of posting this for her.

Hello, City by the Lake readers!

My name is Erik Tannehill, and I am starting a new business called "Outside The Box Personal Chef And Catering"

We are in the planning and building processes. We plan on being in business for the 2010 Holiday season, with a full kickoff in Jan 2011. We will offer personal chef services, with detailed menu choices and planning to suit your needs and tastes and dietary needs (diabetic, low carb, gluten-free, weight loss), whether it is for one person to a whole family. From your favorite staples, to healthy choices, we can work together to please everyone's tastes.

We are also offering catering services for smaller, intimate events in your home, or off-site at the venue of your choice. Myself, Erik Tannehill has nearly 20 years experience working in commercial restaurant kitchens, working in all positions in those kitchens, and would love to bring the flair and restaurant quality food to your home or your catered event. I am Serve Safe certified in food safety by the National Restaurant Association, so I am trained to bring you high, restaurant quality food that is properly prepared.

I am also a licensed bartender in the state of Indiana.

We hope to push a little further here in the next couple of weeks. Thank you for your time in reading this, and and if this interests you in any way please contact me at (219) 575-7697 or (219)851-2406, or online at otbpersonalchefandcatering@yahoo.com

Again, thank you for your time!

I wanted to share this as a gift idea for the hard to buy for Sox fans in all of our lives. Anyone who has lived in Michigan City for any amount of time has come across the art work of Neil Kienitz, who is famous for his south shore posters, amongst other things. The prices are $8, $10, and $15 for the different size prints.

But anyway, the art work is stellar, and very affordable. If there is a Cub fan in your life, or a fan of many of the things in northwest Indiana, I would recommend people to browse the website to find something to fit them. Ordering info is on the website, or people can contact me for help.
