Whether it’s quickness, size, basketball skill, or determination, this pseudo team would seem to have it all.

La Porte led the area, putting two players on The La Porte County Herald-Argus 2011-12 All-Area Boys Basketball first team.

Michigan City, Marquette and South Central each had one representative named to the first squad.

The Slicers’ Josh Fleming and Austin Alcorn each had very noteworthy seasons.

Fleming averaged 16.3 points per game, while Alcorn scored a nearly-identical 16.2 points per game. Fleming also grabbed almost five rebounds per game as a point guard, shooting 52 percent from the field. Fleming seemed to raise his level of play at crucial moments of games, while defenses keyed on Alcorn and he still had a productive season. Alcorn corralled 5.1 boards a contest, while making 50 percent of his shots.

The dynamic duo helped La Porte pull off some upsets this season, including beating eventual sectional-champion Merrillville twice, Michigan City once and 16-win Plymouth once.

Jasmin Biberovic of Marquette also garnered first-team honors. The 6-foot-8 center from Macedonia was fundamental in the Blazers’ state tournament run, leading to the sectional final where they almost upended Class A No. 5 Triton.

He recorded 13.3 points and six rebounds per game, carrying Marquette to a 13-10 record. He was no bigger than in the sectional title game, where he finished with a team-high 20 points and 16 rebounds.

Michigan City’s Jabbar Washington was tabbed to the first team as well. He was the floor general for the Wolves, propelling them to a winning record and the sectional championship game before losing 55-50 to Merrillville. Washington paced City with 20 points in that game. He scored 12.3 points an outing for the 12-11 Wolves.

Marcus Kammrath represents South Central. The 6-foot-8 Kammrath averaged 15.2 points per game and finished with a team-high 63 percent shooting percentage. Against rival Westville, he had a season-high 28 points and 19 rebounds in the win. There were only three games where Kammrath didn’t score in double figures.

On the second team, Westville paces the area with two players, Kevin Stone-Tharp and Dan Warnke.

Stone-Tharp scored 15.8 points per game and Warnke tallied 15 points a contest.

Stone-Tharp came into his own this past season, guiding the Blackhawks to an 11-11 record. He had eight games where he scored 19 or more points.

Warnke was a lethal 3-point shooter and emotional leader for Westville. He had seven games where he scored 19 or more points. Warnke finished his prep career with 784 points.

New Prairie, John Glenn and La Crosse each had one player make the cut.

The Cougars’ Kyle Brammer was choosen for the second team.

He guided New Prairie to its most wins in nine seasons, finishing with a 13-9 record.

Brammer tallied 10 points a contest and was also a formidable rebounder and defender.

Josh Anderson was selected from the Falcons.

He averaged 16.3 points per game, helping John Glenn reach the sectional final before losing a heartbreaker to Class 3A No. 7 Mishawaka Marian.

He scored 24 and 17 points in sectional wins over New Prairie and Jimtown. He had eight games where he scored 20 or more points.

The Tigers’ Riley Charlesworth rounds out the second team. The junior notched 17.4 points an outing and there were just two games where he didn’t reach double figure scoring. He had seven games where he scored at least 20 points, including a season-high 30 points in a game against South Central on Jan. 19.

Even though the first and second teams are talented, the third team could more than hold its own.

Leading the way in scoring is South Central’s Adam Clindaniel, who scored 10.7 ppg. Rounding out the squad are Michigan City’s Taylor Lavery (10.2 ppg) and Ryan Taylor (8.7 ppg), Marquette’s Ryan Fazekas (10.6 ppg) and New Prairie’s Zach Rehlander (10.4 ppg).

Honorable Mention

Westville’s Christian Porter (10.6 ppg); New Prairie’s Austin Ginter (9.6 ppg); La Crosse’s Jimmy Rippe (10.7 ppg); La Crosse’s Sam Culver (10.1 ppg); John Glenn’s Jake Strong (9.7 ppg); Oregon-Davis’ Jake Jones (11 ppg); Oregon-Davis’ Craig McIntosh (9.7 ppg).

The all area team wasn't also recruited from the entire nation for their basketball ability.

The Lakers had boys from all over the USA as well as Canada, Columbia, Croatia and Sudan.
