We should all get together "by the lake", preferably in a bar or a restaurant for a little meet and greet. It'd be fun to play "make real" for a night. Anyone? I promise, I don't bite.

I could see doing this. I'm not sure where it would be done best though. I'm thinking someplace with food and adult beverages (do we even have any members under 21?), possibly with music, but not so loud as to discourage conversation. High speed internet would be nice so our out of town members could virtually attend (hi Ang!). Any suggestions for a venue?

McGinnis Pub has WiFi (or so I hear), adult beverages and food (this I know first hand). |

I've been to McGinnis Pub, and I've enjoyed the food and drink, but the place impressed me as being noisy. We had difficulty carrying on a conversation, and there were only two of us, let alone a group. I was skimming through some of the restaurant reviews on the board last night, and one place I saw which looked to me like a possibility was El Nopal. I don't know about the broadband, but the food and drink aspect is covered, and the front room is large enough for mingling. The fact that there happens to be a pool table there where I could do some physics demonstrations ("hustling" is such a vulgar term, dontcha think?) is a plus, I must admit. |

WAIT FOR ME!!!!!!
I'll be in town Feb 22 through the 26th. I've got an obligation on the 24th so maybe either the evening of the 22nd, or anytime on the 23rd. You guys decide what works best for the rest and I'll be there! Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind~Dr. Suess

Swingbelly's and Holly's would be my two favorite choices. I like the locally owned and non-chains. If we want to talk about a chain, I love Buffalo Wild Wings, as I love the trivia game.

I'm a little miffed at Swingbelly's because of past poor service, but that was a few years ago, and as I've said before, things and people change. I would not be against getting together there. However, I love Holly's and if I had my druthers, I'druther go there.

I've been to Holly's and the food & drink there is acceptable, but do you guys think it lends itself to having a conversation? The main thing I remember about the place regarding ambiance was lots of loud TV sets on various sports channels.
I think we know the when -- when Ang is in town, we don't know the where and the who. I would think the who has an effect on the where, in that I don't remember Holly's having tables for more than six people. Swingbelly's has a back room we might be able to reserve, which I haven't been in, but I don't remember anything there that would accommodate more than 6 people either. I'll go with the consensus -- Swingbelly's, Holly's, Albano's (read the "best pizza in town" thread!), wherever. |

I vote for any non-chain, so Holly's, Albano's, Swingbelly's, all work for me!

I say, avoid the chain. How about the family room (nonsmoking, and minors are welcome, and nonminors could enjoy some suds) at ShoreLine?

This could go on for months.
Mod, can you please set up a voting tally thingy that shows the rolling results in bar graph form (I'm not trying to be bossy or picky here, but I see those things on other message boards all the time)? My vote is Swingbelly's, 7:00 pmish on Sat, 2/23. "The country needs and, unless I mistake its temper, the country demands bold, persistent experimentation. It is common sense to take a method and try it: If it fails, admit it frankly and try another. But above all, try something."
