How many folks here enjoyed Maxine & Heinie's in its heyday? What a great MC institution that was. My parents loved the place, and my dad had many a "political meeting" at the bar there during his tenure as mayor of OFC. We did the books for M&H at Miller Tax Service and we were all frequent visitors to the restaurant. Heinie's birthday was right around Christmas and his yearly BD/Christmas party was a highlight of the holiday season. The food at Maxine & Heinie's was simply fabulous - gand they had a great staff who had all been there for years and treated you like family. Maxine was rarely at the restaurant - at least during the time I was going there - but Hienie was the classic innkeeper type - always going around to tables and greeting everyone.
Anyone else have any memories of this fine MC establishment they'd like to share? |

Not one response? Fine. *crosses arms over chest and pouts.* Uncross those arms Tim! I occasionally get up to M.C. and was hoping M&H was still there but, alas, no... My parents use to go there without us kids so I suspected it must be pretty good. When I travel I prefer to find something that is not a chain before resorting to the familiar names. I will have to check this page again before the next time I come up... |

Maxine & Heinie's has been gone for a long time - 15 years at least. My parents always went there too - I don't think kids could go there due to the drinking-age thing. I know I never went until I was 21 or over. The food was just spectacular - I don't think there's been any in MC like it since. |

Is there any connection between Maxine and Heinie's and the current day Maxine's, or is that just coincidental?

The name is a tribute of sorts to the original restaurant.
I was never old enough to go there when it was open, but my family has plenty of great M & H stories. I'll have to get them to relay at least one for the thread. |

Same here, I was too young to go in there and by the time I was old enough, I was in the Navy. My Grandparents used to eat there once a month. That is all I know.

Hmmm - this looks like another generation gap thing. Add that to the fact that America only had 48 states the day I was born.... oh just dig the hole already! |
