Closure of manufacturing and distribution facilities to result in the loss of 47 jobs

NEW CARLISLE — EGS Easy Heat Inc. has announced restructuring plans that will result in the closing of its New Carlisle manufacturing facility and distribution operations by August.

“By consolidating the New Carlisle operations into other EGS locations, we are better able to serve our customers and compete in the global market for our heating cable systems. This decision is no reflection on the employees at our New Carlisle location, who have performed well for many years,” EGS spokesman Dave Baldridge said.

As a result of the closing, 47 people will lose their jobs unless they find work in another EGS facility. EGS has operated the plant, located at 31977 E. U.S. 20, since 1998.

EGS, which manufactures electric heating cable to remove snow and ice from homes and buildings, is transferring the manufacturing that took place at New Carlisle to a plant in Mexico, and the distribution work done in New Carlisle to a facility in Memphis, Tenn.

“It was a difficult decision. We manage our business to stay competitive,” Baldridge said.

Employees were informed of the closing Tuesday.

The expense of moving any production or staff positions out of the USA should NOT be a tax-deductible expense. As it stands, it is an expense deducted from revenue, and not taxed as income. Well, why should companies get this reward? They should not.
