QUOTE Flag raising ceremony planned to honor vets From staff reports Published: Thursday, April 26, 2012 5:08 PM CDT MICHIGAN CITY — The Wall Gang will have a flag-raising ceremony to honor the memories of two deceased veterans at 6:30 p.m. Thursday, May 3, at The Wall Gang property at 911 Chicago St. on the city's West Side. The late Danny Bruce, a Michigan City Medal of Honor recipient, and the late James Davis, father of Wall Gang member Danny "Watchdog" Davis, will be remembered at the event. The Wall Gang will conduct flag-raising ceremonies once a month from May through October, said flag-raising committee member Jeannie Davis. Most ceremonies will last about 15 minutes, but committee member Karla Lloyd said the opening event of the season will be a bit more formal. A representative of Congressman Joe Donnelly, D-Granger, will attend. Bob Johnson will sing The National Anthem and the John Franklin Miller American Legion Post 37 will play taps and will present a 21 gun salute, Lloyd said. The flags from Bruce's and Davis's caskets will be raised individually, with Danny Davis handling his father's flag. Those who are interested in scheduling a flag-raising ceremony for a veteran may call Jeannie Davis at 873-5766; Karla Lloyd at (219) 561-8813; or Tanis Pawson at 873-4638. |
