On Wednesday at 5pm we are launching the Clean Energy Future Coalition that represents more than 30 businesses, labor groups, and environmental organizations that have signed a letter to NIPSCO’s CEO delivering our message. There is a strong, united voice in northwest Indiana that wants our utility to transition away from coal to a clean energy future to create clean energy jobs and protect our air and water. We are working to turn out a BIG crowd to show how ready northwest Indiana is for renewable energy.

Indiana is at an energy crossroads. Our state produces 95% of its electricity from burning dirty coal, while the rest of the country only average 46%. Coal is the number one source of mercury pollution and is responsible for upwards of 200,000 asthma attacks every year. It is dirty, old technology and we can do better.

NIPSCO has taken a lead in clean energy by offering two renewable energy options to its customers: a net metering program and a pilot feed-in tariff program. Both programs are designed to connect customers with solar, wind, hydro, or biomass systems to the grid and receive credit or payment for energy produced from the utility. Customers and Sierra Club members have been working tirelessly this fall -from petitioning to writing Letters to the Editor- to show NIPSCO’s CEO Jimmy Staton that we support their renewable energy programs and urge NIPSCO to resolve any technical issues keeping solar and wind projects from being approved and beginning.

That's why we are launching the Clean Energy Future Coalition to represent a comprehensive effort from businesses and organizations to support clean energy programs. Let's make this a huge success-

Join us tomorrow night at the Long Beach Old School Community Center for this exciting event!

Thank you for being part of this exciting movement to lead Indiana to brighter future,
-Matt, Tony, Mel, Virginia and all of the Northwest Indiana Beyond Coal Leadership Team
