MICHIGAN CITY — Hanging baskets, bedding plants, baked goods, gourmet foods and herbs are among the products that will be available when the Michigan City Mainstreet Association’s Farmers Market begins its 18th year Saturday.

Located at Eighth and Washington streets, the market opens at 8 a.m. each Saturday through October and continues until noon or until vendors sell out.

Market Manager Ruth Deutscher said many favorite vendors are returning, and local non-profit groups will conduct weekly bake sales.

Among the returning vendors are Burek Farms, Cyrano’s Bistro, Vicini Farms and Greenhouse, Clearspring Acres, Garwood Orchards, D’Avella Family Winery, Billy Boy’s Blueberry Barn, Mulson Farm, McCartney’s Farm, Hercik Farms, Grandpa’s Farm (pastured chickens and eggs), Natural Wonders Organic Gardens, Cigar Heads Biz, Hostas and More, The Plant Ladies and Sahara Restaurant.

A limited number of spaces remain available to vendors on either a seasonal or weekly basis. Those interested can contact Deutscher at 879-5807.

Jerry Peters, Mainstreet Association liaison to the Farmers Market, aims to have entertainment and activities throughout the summer. Those interested in participating may call him at 874-4269.
