Q:
I’m going to be in the city for a couple of nights. CAN I LEAVE MY CAR at a South Shore lot overnight?

A:
No problem, as long as you don’t park at Hegewisch or Gary Metro Center (these are pay lots and we do not control them). For security reasons we don’t encourage overnight parking in any of our lots. However, passengers who choose overnight parking are at their own risk. NICTD assumes no liability for cars parked in its lots.

Anyone ever parked there overnight ? ph34r.gif

I'm sure a lot of people park there long term if they ride the train to Randolph St. and take the Orange line to Midway or the Blue Line to O'Hare or fly out of South Bend.

A lot of people park overnight at the Marquette Mall when the ride the Coach USA to the airports.

If I didn't have a driveway and a garage where I am able to park several vehicles on my property and had to park in the street in a snow emergency I would park overnight at Marquette Mall and ride the bus back home then ride the bus back to the mall and get my car when the plows quit running.

One thing that has me scratching my head is if future plans call for shutting down the Carrol Ave. stop and having a single downtown Michigan City South Shore train station, How is NICTD going to accomadate for parking for a system that is based on park and ride?

I was told that NICTD wants to take out everything between 10th and 11th to the north and south and everything between Franklin to Cedar St. to the East and west for South Shore parking.

I have parked overnight at Dune Park before and had no problems. I have not parked over night in either of the City lots.

I've parked my Silver '81 Honda Hawk CB400 motorcycle that I used to own and have since sold at Carroll Ave. when I flew Southwest Airlines out of Midway to Las Vegas in the Spring of 2007 and then again when I flew Southwest out of Midway to Birmingham, Alabama my oldest Niece's high school graduation in June of 2010 (which was the last time I flew anywhere). I never had any problems either.

Coach USA is of course the other option, but I'm curious just how many passengers missed their flights because of traffic jams on the highway. NICTD would seem to be the safer bet here.

Thanks for the replies by the way. wink.gif

The train is much less expensive. $11.50 for NICTD + El Train VS. $31.00 for Coach USA.
