QUOTE A driver is in critical condition tonight after an accident involving the South Shore Train in LaPorte County. MICHIGAN CITY - A driver is in critical condition Tuesday night after police say they disregarded a crossing signal and was struck by a South Shore train in LaPorte County. This happened just before 6:30 p.m. on Grace Street in Michigan City. Capt. Mike Kellems with the LaPorte County Sheriff’s Department says police were called to the area for a single-vehicle crash involving a train. When officers arrived they found a vehicle on its top. The driver had to be cut from the vehicle and is said to be in critical condition, according to Kellems. Passengers on Train 11 were transferred to another train and continued to South Bend, according to South Shore officials. No one on the train was injured, Kellems says. South Shore trains were delayed for sometime between Dune Park and Michigan City while the scene was cleared. |
