Many of us remember the Burger Chef on Michigan Blvd. This site has lots of great pictures and some history. I fondly remember Burger Chef from when I worked at Sullair in about 1976. We'd go for lunch about twice a week - great burgers!

Good stuff. My mom used to take me to the one in LaPorte on J St. when I was tot. I was quite upset when it became Hardee's.

When you were tot? What the fun does that mean? biggrin.gif On J Street? Wasn't it on Lincolnway?

So many questions....

Don't you get it? They are vampires and use the word 'tot' to describe a state somewhere less than alive but more than stiff. It comes from German.

Thanks for the link! My parents met as Burger Chef workers--I've passed the link along to them and they love it.

Wow - in MC? I vividly remember how good those burgers were - distinctly different than Mcdonalds. Fresher - or something - but DEE-LISH!

No, Indianapolis, but it applies there too. They hated each other with a passion at Burger Chef. But you know what they say about a thin line between love and hate...

Anyway, I owe Burger Chef for my existence, so thanks. smile.gif

Got me. Meant to say "when I was a tot", ie. "when I was a child". But honestly, I think I really like Rog's interpretation the best.

So....

Good stuff. My mom used to take me to the one in LaPorte on J St. when I was a young, undead Nazi vampire. I was quite upset when it became Hardee's.

Definitely J Street. Right between the old Pizza Hut and that little ice cream shack.

Doesn't Lincolnway wrap down around to where K-Mart is/was? Or does it keep going straight on that west end?

I spent my entire youth in LaPorte as a member of the Maple City Cadets - guess I didn't pay attention to street signs.

Okay - just looked at Google Earth and Yep! J St.
