Baldoni, King Won't Seek Re-election

The News-Dispatch

MICHIGAN CITY - Two La Porte Superior Court judges announced Tuesday they will not seek re-election.

Paul Baldoni of Superior Court 3 in La Porte and Steven King of Superior Court 2 in Michigan City - both Democrats - collectively have 57 years of judicial experience.

Baldoni was appointed by Alban Smith, former La Porte Circuit Court judge, in January 1976. He's retiring after 32 years as judge and said he appreciates the dedicated service his staff has provided during that time.

"It has been an honor to have served the citizens of La Porte County," Baldoni said.

King has served three consecutive terms as judge, beginning in 1990. From 1983 to 1990, he was probate commissioner at La Porte Circuit Court as an appointee of the late Judge Robert S. Gettinger.

King said his work has been challenging, providing daily involvement with attorneys, court staff and courthouse employees.

"They helped make it a stimulating and satisfying experience," King said. "A quarter century in the center of conflict is enough, however. So I opt to seek a bit more of the gentle side of life."
