A plan is now being advanced for the replacement of the old Amtrak station by the mouth of Trail Creek.

(Michigan City, IN) - Lakefront condominiums are being proposed in Michigan City. More than 50 units would be inside a six story structure to go up at the site of the former Amtrak station on Washington Street. Each unit would be priced at about a half million dollars. Ernest Rosado, Jr., who's representing the developers, said there would be retail and a restaurant on the first floor.

Final approval was not given following his presentation yesterday. However, the Michigan City Redevelopment Commission decided to move forward with the approvals process involved with the estimated $20 million project.

Considering the multiple failures at the Memorial Hospital site, I'm really curious why TIF money is involved in this project.

Plans moving forward for Michigan City lakefront condominiums

Been a LOT of TIF failures. That pallet shop on Ohio Street is still a fire waiting to happen.

MICHIGAN CITY – The developer of a proposed 55-unit condo project just outside Washington Park could feel pressure from the Redevelopment Commission soon.

“I think everybody’s satisfied with the contents of the economic development agreement” for the Washington Landing Condominiums project, RDC attorney Alan Sirinek said last week, but developer 100 North Washington hasn’t done due diligence on utilities, stormwater, wastewater, Amtrak and other components of the project.

“There are a lot of unknown costs. That could be a several-million-dollar aspect of this project, and that’s just for the utilities,” Sirinek said.

“I wouldn’t even be bringing this to you if it were our property,” Sirinek said. “It would be a nonstarter.”

100 North Washington plans to build the six-story structure at the site of a former Amtrak train station that has housed a series of restaurants.
