Inmate takes hostage, assaults correctional officer at Indiana State Prison

MICHIGAN CITY | A correctional officer at the Indiana State Prison on Wednesday was assaulted by an inmate before that inmate took another employee at the prison hostage.

Prison officials said the offender, Scott A. Nicholson, assaulted a correctional officer and subsequently took another correctional employee hostage while in a housing unit at the prison about 9:30 a.m.

Authorities said emergency response personnel began negotiating with the inmate. About 11 a.m. the employee was released and then Nicholson came out of his cell and was taken into custody...
