I am only surprised it took this long. Hopefully this is the first step to cleaning up the mess out there. The filing can be found here.

Haven't been by there lately. Is it bad looking?

The subdivision is fine. The ownership got beat up by the real estate bust and hasn't been able to recover.

I applied to work there years ago. Seemed like it would be a nice place to work.

It's too bad. I like the look of the community. Pastel colored homes with a 5' vis-a-vis. You like that? |

To me it looks like a storybook village. I half expect to see fairies, elves, and ogres lurking about.

Pastel colored homes with a 5' vis-a-vis. You like that? Yes, I do. It has a vacation feel. Regarding the place being a fire trap. Weren't the proper permits acquired and inspections completed? Welcome to the Michigan City Area Schools, we are over budget, over paid, overwhelmed ... |

Well of course they were......but with the winding, narrow lanes it's hard to get a fire truck through there, much less find an address......they would have to look for the smoke.
And the way the houses are constructed, materials used, etc, they would seem to me to burn up pretty quick. Be who you are and say what you feel because those who mind don't matter and those who matter don't mind~Dr. Suess

IIRC, they first started off as a private subdivision, which exempted them from many of the lot and street size requirements. For a long time they took care of things like garbage disposal themselves.
I am remembering this stuff from the top of my head, so if there is a gap in my knowledge, feel free to fill in the blanks. |

Beachwalk is a planned unit development which was granted development standard variances by the Michigan City Plan Commission from complying with certain subdivision requirements (eg street width, curbs and gutters, setback requirements). To my knowledge the streets and other infrastructure improvements are private and have not been dedicated to or accepted by Michigan City. |

I know they recently agreed to turnover garbage to the City. I don't know about their streets.
