We have a scheduled state exectuion at ISP on December 11th for a guy that raped and killed a 15 year old girl in southern Indiana in 2001 but it is not going to happen until his case goes through the federal appeals process.

Court this morning, which was more like the pre-phase to the next phase: motion discussions, new info, setting pre-trial and trial dates, etc. It was hard to sit there and see those "boys", whose poor decisions have changed so much in our little community. There was reference to new "discovery," as recently as yesterday, but no additional info on those details, of course. There were a lot of dates being thrown around, and all four were brought up separately, so I do need to verify the pre-trial and trial dates with the clerk just to make sure what I heard was accurate (it was noisy in there). But from what I can tell, they're looking at a September trial date, which means this will drag on for a while. As soon as I've re-confirmed this info, I'll get an article up to share with everyone. I'm sorry there isn't more to report at this time, but wanted to update you all quickly.

A teenager submitted a guilty plea to a lesser charge in the 2012 brutal slaying of a retired Michigan City teacher as part of a deal offered by prosecutors in an effort to shore up cases against others allegedly involved.

Martell Anderson, 17, pleaded guilty Thursday to Class A felony robbery.

The charge was downgraded from murder in exchange for Anderson agreeing to testify against three others charged in the killing, said LaPorte County Prosecutor Bob Szilagyi.

The News Dispatch is reporting Ryan Phelps has been found guilty on all three counts in relation to the murder of former Michigan City teacher Gerald Peters.
