The girls team is lucky to have Jack as their coach. I was lucky enough to work for Mr Seyring back in my high school days when he was the pro at Pott Park. He is one of the nicest, most patient guys who you could ever meet. I hope he does well.

New Coach Seyring Brings Experience To City Girls Golf

Adam Parkhouse
Sports Editor, The News-Dispatch

MICHIGAN CITY - Michigan City's new girls golf coach is a familiar name. And an experienced one, too.

Jack Seyring, who briefly was a boys and girls varsity golf coach in Michigan City but has decades of experience teaching the game as an educator, will take the reins of Michigan City's girls golf team. Seyring replaces Ed Scrivnor, who retired following the 2006-07 school year.

"I'm happy to be doing it," said Seyring, adding that he's not sure of his long-term commitment in the position. "At this point it's probably more of a year-by-year thing. I'm no spring chicken. I've been retired for four years."

Seyring, 70, still plays golf as many as five days per week, and shoots respectable scores in the low 80s. A few weeks ago, Seyring shot a 77 at Michigan City Municipal and said that it's his goal to one day shoot his age.

Admittedly, he won't be able to play as much golf now that he's handling City's girls program, but that suits him just fine.

"I've been playing a lot of golf and enjoying it, and I'll have to give some of that up, but that's OK," Seyring said.

The Lady Wolves have struggled in recent years, and Seyring will be dealing with massive losses to graduation, including Laura Ryba and Kristen Sulkowski, among others.

"They're inexperienced, but there are a couple there with varsity experience," Seyring said, referring to Liz Heywood and Cecelia Gussman. "We'll just have to work hard and fast."

City's first meet is Aug. 1 at Municipal against South Bend Riley.

Seyring's golf and teaching resume is an impressive one. He's a life member of the PGA, has been a head golf professional for 27 years at various golf and country clubs, and has 10 years of varsity experience coaching boys, eight in Illinois and two in Michigan City. Seyring also served as one of MCHS' assistant athletic directors for eight years, most under Dick McGill.

Jack is an awsome guy!! He is mild mannered and very patient. His mere presence can calm a room and inspire respect. The girls are lucky to have him. I know Freitag depended a lot on Jack his first year in the AD office, and continued to go to him for advice.
I'm glad to see that Jack didn't fade away and is still going strong.

GO WOLVES!!
