Here in Gaylord, MI, LaPorte County Tourism made its presentation to members of the Association of Great Lakes Outdoor Writers to host the 2011 conference which will draw writers from throughout the midwest. Historically the conference gains extensive media coverage for tourism attractions of the host city. A representative of Blue Chip Casino and two employees of the Convention bureau are at this year's conference and are hosting a reception tonight. Other finalists are Oshkosh, WI and Honey Creek Resort State Park, Iowa. LaPorte County Tourism Marketing Manager Leslie Schoeder will be on WEFM tomorrow morning in a broadcast from Gaylord.

Hopefully this happens. It would be a great catch for the county.

Hopefully this happens. It would be a great catch for the county. Having attended these conferences many times, I can observe that when LaPorte county hosts, the convention center will need volunteers. However do not expect to get the award the first year. That would be unusual. We will not know for about a month who gets the current award. There was a good session yesterday on Lake Michigan contamination put on by Ducks Unlimited. I got a brief recorded interview. |

I've tried to reach LPCo Tourism about this story for the past two days, to no avail. They are all gone or at conferences. I'm looking forward to writing an article about it when they find time to speak with me... Not to jump in here, but I'll bet they will be around during the Made in LaPorte County show on Friday at Marquette Mall. |

I'm looking forward to writing an article about it when they find time to speak with me... Do you want a message relayed to them? We will see them at dinner and saw them at Break Away Day a short time ago. We have four people here covering for our station group, with differing coverage for each station. At the time I joined about l970 my sponsor was Al Spires, editorial director of the Nixon newspaper group, prior owner of the ND. I don't know if a sponsor is required now but I owe it to Al to put forth the name of anyone from the newspaper who might be interested. I did invite another local source a couple of years ago, but was told "on air" that it was only a plan to steal their personnel. Be aware, we are not trying to steal you but you would be welcome. |

Jason Miller said he will call you in the morning. He previously worked for the ND and is charged with sports development for LaPorte county tourism.
Current requirements for AGLOW membership are a sponsor, not a problem, and submission of articles devoted to some aspect of the out of doors to be judged by your print peers. If interest please advise me or pass along to your co-workers. Wally Pritz and I are apparently the only two local members. In addition to doing out of doors programming for WEFM, his real job is running Evergreen Business Center and a real estate development company. |

I don't usually write articles that don't have anything to do with cops, courts or school board stuff. So, if writing about a police chase that happens on the street counts, I'm in! Haha...otherwise I don't think I'd qualify. It sounds like a great organization, though! I'll look forward to speaking with Jason Necessary disclaimer: The views expressed in this post are mine and do not necessarily reflect the views of Paxton Media Group.

But one is going outside...walking, biking, experiencing nature, recreation, visiting wineries. Maybe even boating, hunting, fishing, camping. Now, there is something I am seeking and maybe you have some information, or someone else who reads this may know. A few months back our radio stations at Decatur, IL were following production of the movie "The Informer," about the ADM price fixing a few years ago there. The movie is now opening. We learned a child support actor is from Michigan City but that is all we have been able to learn, and we have been trying to run it down since. A contact at the Herald and Review there could not find out either. I don't have the name of the child with me at Gaylord. |

You might be talking about 8 year old Lucas Carroll of LaPorte? http://www.heraldpalladium.com/articles/20...news/861692.txt |

No sooner had I posted this than we discovered he lives in Grand Beach just across the state line which is why we could not find him in MC. He does go to school in LaPorte. In
Decatur he was identified as being from MC. End of mystery. Now to see the movie shot in Decatur. |
