MICHIGAN CITY - U.S. Rep. Danny Davis, D-Ill., will speak at the Obama for America office, 618 Franklin St., at 6:30 p.m. Sunday, April 13. The public is invited.

LA PORTE - State Sen. Jim Arnold, D-La Porte, has been endorsed by Indiana Farm Bureau.

"On the basis of your record and qualifications ... you deserve our endorsement," Bob Kraft, director of State Government Relations for Indiana Farm Bureau, told Arnold.

This session Arnold voted against two property tax bills, which provide no relief for most Hoosiers and hit farmers especially hard.

"Farm Bureau appreciates Senator Arnold's genuine concern for agriculture," said La Porte County Farm Bureau President Dave Scarborough. "He has been willing to listen to and learn from the farmers in his district."

Arnold is currently seeking re-election after being selected to fill the unexpired term of State Sen. Anita Bowser after her death last year. Senate District 8 covers portions of La Porte and St. Joseph counties.

MICHIGAN CITY - Candidates for the May 6 primary will be the focus of 30-minute interviews on La Porte County Local Government Access Channel 97.

Candidates for Superior Court 2 will be featured Wednesday, April 16, and candidate for state senator will be featured Thursday, April 17.

At 8 p.m. Wednesday will be Democrat John Lake, with Democrat Kevin McGrath at 8:30 p.m. and Democrat Rich Stalbrink at 9 p.m.

On Wednesday, Democrat Jim Arnold will be at 7 p.m., followed by Democrat Debra Birkholz at 7:30 p.m. and Democrat Maxine Spenner at 8 p.m.
