MICHIGAN CITY - Two city Water Department employees walked away unhurt Thursday after the truck they were in collided with a car at Washington Street and Michigan Boulevard.
The Ford F-250 truck, driven by Tim Gulstrom, came to rest on the front lawn of the Michigan City Courthouse. The impact of the accident activated the truck's horn, which blared for more than 10 minutes while firefighters tried to find a way to deactivate it.
The truck's hood was damaged in the accident, making it impossible for firefighters to get to the battery to cut the power to the horn.
Gulstrom said at the scene he was driving east on Michigan Boulevard through the intersection with Washington Street when a car driven by Lonnie Moore of North Judson, Ind., turned south onto Washington Street and into Gulstrom's path.
Moore, who said he was headed west on Michigan Boulevard, said he was driving behind a blue Ford Mustang when both vehicles turned left with a green light.
"I don't know how (the Mustang) didn't get hit," Moore said. "We had the green light. I don't know how it happened."
Both vehicles were towed from the scene. Moore and Gulstrom both said they weren't hurt, although Gulstrom said he and his passenger both "hit the windshield" when their truck was hit.
