Candidate filing begins Wednesday

LaPORTE - LaPorte County Clerk Bob Behler announced Monday the filing period for candidates seeking nominations for municipal office by either the Democrat or Republican parties opens Wednesday, Jan. 24.

Individuals must file a Declaration of Candidacy form in the Clerk of the Circuit Court (County Clerk) office on the first floor of the county courthouse in LaPorte. Filings cannot be accepted at the Michigan City courthouse.

There is no charge to file, and candidates will receive all necessary forms and instructions for the filings necessary at various times during the election campaign.

Libertarian candidates and those intending to run as independent candidates are not required to file during this period, which closes at noon Friday, Feb. 23.

The County Clerk's office in LaPorte is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, but will be closed for federal holidays on Mondays, Feb. 12 and 19.
