Failed Horizon Bank is not in Michigan City
MICHIGAN CITY - Horizon Bank, headquartered in Michigan City, issued a statement Monday to assure its customers and the community that it is safe, sound and still growing. Recent news of a failed bank in Bellingham, Wash. - also named Horizon Bank - has sparked some confusion and concern.
"Horizon Bank has absolutely no affiliation with the bank that failed recently in the state of Washington. We are about to celebrate our 137th year in business and another successful year. Given the current recession, all of us at Horizon are proud of our accomplishments and our continued commitment to serving the local community," said Craig M. Dwight, chief executive officer of Horizon Bank.

In June of 2009 the U.S. Banker Magazine ranked Horizon's financial performance as one of the top 200 community banks in the nation. This is the third consecutive year Horizon has received such an honor. In addition, Horizon continues to prosper as demonstrated by record earnings in each of the last nine years, and earnings through Sept. 30, 2009, ahead of prior year.
