Toys for Tots short on toys
Comment on this story

LaPorte County Toys for Tots is a bit short on toys this year. And if donations don’t pick up soon, some kids in the county might wake up Christmas morning with nothing but pine needles beneath the tree.

April Stib, LaPorte County coordinator for Toy for Tots, told the LaPorte County Herald-Argus Thursday that the organization still needs several dozen toys for boys and girls ages 8 to 12 in order to fill the need for this season.

Most of the toys already donated, she said, have been for infants and toddlers. Often, she said, people forget when donating that the organization helps children of all ages.

The official deadline to donate toys is Monday, Dec. 18, although donations can be arranged after that date. Collection boxes must be retrieved and toys delivered to households no later than Dec. 22, said Stib.

Toys donated must be new and unwrapped. Collection boxes can still be found at several locations throughout the county, including at the LaPorte Post Office, Purdue North Central in Westville, Big Lots and City Lanes in Michigan City, and at First National Bank locations in LaCrosse, Wanatah, and Westville.
