Neat scene from the 1980's movie "Adventure's In Babysitting". at 8:00 you can hear the Chicago bus station dispatcher announce over the public address say, "Your attention please, overnight service to Gary, Indiana, Hammond, Indiana, Michigan City and Lafayette will be departing at gate number six in fifteen minutes."

I love that movie!! And I too heard the announcer say Michigan City the first time I saw it. If you've never seen "Adventures in Babysitting," you definitely must see it. One of my favs!

Here's a great movie that was filmed entirely in Gary. "Original Gangstas" from 1996 starring NFL greats Jim Brown and Gary's own Fred "The Hammer" Williamson and Pam Grier. Great opening scene featuring Gary City Hall, USS Gary Works, the former Palace Theater, the old Memorial Auditorium and closed business properties along Broadway.

It seems to me there's a Hitchcock movie - North By Northwest? - where someone is riding a train or a bus and an announcer says "Hammond - Michigan City...." Hmmmm -

(Later that same day)

Now that I think about it, I think it's when Cary Grant's character is going through the Chicago train station and an announcement comes on like Hegewisch, East Chicago, Hammond, Michigan City.... which are all South Shore stops. So maybe it was an actual South Shore announcement.

Damn! My VCR died or I'd check my vid of the movie. I'm pretty sure that's right.

Movie director John Hancock who lives in the Galena Township area filmed his moves "Prancer", "A Piece of Eden" and "Suspended Animation" here locally. I really liked "A Piece of Eden" the best. He used Ott/Haverstock Funeral home in Michigan City in one scene and also La Porte Hospital, Shaw Friedman's Law office in La Porte and made Downtown La Porte out to be downtown Manhatten in another scene. There was another part where the narrator says, "My family lived on a farm on Fail Road, I never liked that name."

"A Piece of Eden" is definitly a must see.
