Anyone know why Moore voted against this?

Agreement OK’d to pave Roeske Trail

MICHIGAN CITY — The Common Council on Tuesday night approved an agreement between Michigan City and the town of Pottawattamie Park to pave Roeske Trail between Springland Avenue and Tomahawk Drive.

Pat Donoghue, attorney for the town, said the cost of paving the section, which is half on Michigan City property and half in Pottawattamie Park, would come to $33,400 if completed by Rieth-Riley, Michigan City’s paving contractor this year.

The plan was for Pottawattamie Park to cover half the cost, but Donaghue said there is “no money in the 2011 budget” for that to be done.

Therefore, the agreement between the two municipalities will ensure that the pavement of the entire road will be completed this year, initially at the expense of Michigan City.

Once completed, a claim will be sent to Pottawattamie Park, which will then reimburse the city for half the cost of the project from its 2012 budget.

Donoghue said it would be ideal to have the paving done this year because the Michigan City contractor has allowed for “significant savings.”

The resolution was introduced by Councilmen Joe Doyle and Phil Jankowski.

“This is an opportunity to get it all done at one time,” Doyle said.

The resolution passed by an 8-1 vote, with Fifth Ward Councilwoman Faye Moore providing the lone dissenting vote.
